1. Meat Packing Combine at Krasny Luch
General
This enterprise is called a combine because in addition to the main
plant, there is also a slaughterhouse located 3 to 4 kilometers to the
north of it.
Location
The plant is located about 500 meters north of the center of Krasny
Luch and about 200 meters east of the city market.
About 70 x 70 meters.
Number of Workers Employed
About 120 at the plant and about 30 at the slaughterhouse.
Work Shifts
There are two 8-hour work shifts, which officially run from 0700 to
1500 and from 1500 to 2300 hours, respectively, but in practice run 11 to
12 hours each. The extra hours are not paid for but, as the plant director
stated, constitutes collaboration in the government's efforts to "aid
needy countries."
The combine operates on a peace-work basis.
Production
The plant processes 24+0 quintals of meat daily and produces the fol-
lowing products: sausage, salami, ham, bacon, and "piroshki."

Almost the entire output is sold in Krasny Luch. "Piroshki" sell
for about 4+0 kopecks each.
The meat used by the plant comes partly in frozen form from Rostov,
Voroshilovgrad and other localities, and partly in the form of purchased
livestock which is slaughtered at the combine's own slaughterhouse.
Description of Plant
-Gatehouse, about 1. x 4 meters in size.
-"Piroshki" department: 2-story building, about 30 x 15 meters in
size, with gabled eternit roof.
-Meat processing department.
-Refrigeration department with three large refrigeration chambers.
-Machine shop equipped with one lathe, one emery grinder, and one
electric welding machine.
Transportation Equipment
-5 trucks
-2 refrigerated trucks
-1 bus, obtained in January 1958, for the workers of the slaughterhouse.
Financial Balance Sheet
There was always a deficit.
Wages
grossed 600 rubles and netted 500 to 550 rubles per month.
This was the average wage at the plant) received
after one year of employment
Between 50 and 60 rubles monthly was withheld
never able to ascertain the true reasons for that practice, which

Workers Morale
In general, all the workers were dissatisfied with their economic

Workers Benefits
The plant manager allowed each employee to draw one kilogram of meat
per week. This practice, along with the pilfering which went on, certainly
militated against any improvement in the enterprise's financial status.
2. Mines and Industries at Norilsk
In the Norilsk area rich coal, nickel and platinum deposits are being
exploited.
There is a nickel and platinum ore processing plant in Norilsk.
Platinum is produced in 10-kilogram ingots.
There is also a large thermal-electric power plant.

Norilsk is connected to Didinka by a narrow-gauge rail line. DDdinka,
located on the Yenisei River, has a river port and an airport.
3. Civil Airport at Susabad
There is a civil airport at Susabad, a town located about 650 kilo-
meters from Magadan and 200 kilometers from Leveberg.
4+. Airport Planned-near Leveberg
Topographic surveys and measurements have been carried out in the
Leveberg area for the construction of an airport.
5. Armed Military Airfield at Voroshilovgrad
Subject airfield is located about 10 kilometers south of Voroshilovgrad
and about one kilometer east of the road leading to Krasny Luch.
