Gabrovo is the largest center of the Bulgarian textile industry. More than fifty factories, plants, and industrial enterprises are located in or around this Bulgarian town. of about 259000 to 30a000 inhabitants. The woolen textile industry is predominant. In 1958 or 1959, all related factories were unified into large industrial complexes, and thus at present there is a wool textile complex, Georgi Genev; a cotton textile complex, Vasil Kolarov; and a leather complex, Georgi Kirkov, as well as a number of other industrial enterprises. All factories located in or around the town are listed as workshops (tsekhove), attached to one of these in- dustrial complexes. 2. The Narodna Republika wool combing and spinning factory is listed as work- shop No. 4 of Georgi Genev wool complex,, It produces wool yarn and employs about 200 persons who work in three shifts. employed in three shifts. 3. The Durzhaven Mekhanichen Zavod (DIM - State Machine Plant) consists of four workshops? workshops No. 1 and 2 and workshops No. 3 and 4 are con- nected by a bridge over the Yantra River. This plant manufactures various machines for the wool and cotton textile industries, as well as a number of other items such as machine parts, wheels, fans, lathe machines, and so forth. A branch of the plant manufactures knitting machines. The plant has its own meltingwworkshop,, where scrap iron and steel are melted and used for production. Part of its production is exported. Burya'knit underwear factory is composed of cotton combing, cotton pinning, cotton cbreing, and tailoring workshops. It is probably a work- hop of the Basil Eolarov cotton complex. It manufactures all types of derwear and hose. About 300 persons are employed in three shifts. 6. Georgi Genev wool spinning and weaving factory is probably the central Pe of the Georgi Genev wool complex. It consists of a number of rkshops, through which the raw wool in manufactured into various woolen terials and blankets. The factory is composed ofs wool combing and laming; selecting and spinning; weaving; washing and drying; dyeing; and ressing ~itehops. The factory manufactures overcoats and blankets for the Bulgarian Army and employs about 500 persons who work in three shifts. 7. tspekh wool spinning and weaving factory is probably a workshop of the rgi Genev wool complex. It has the same workshops as the Georgi Genev to It manufactures two types of woolen material; one is of fine van and the other is rather rough textured. It produces blankets and material for army overcoats and employs about 500 persona who wort 'n three shifts. Fdinstvo or Nezavisimost spool factory manufactures wooden spools, j,shut+,Us:and other accessories for the wool and cotton textile actories in the town. It employs 30 to 40 workers who work: in two shifts. 9? The Gancho Lapakov leather factory is probably a workshop of the Georgi Kirkov leather complex. n t manufactures primarily school briefcases, one lather bags, purses, etc. e 10. The Gabrovo knit underwear factory is probably a workshop of the Vasil larov, cotton complex. Its production is similar to that of the Basya factory, and it employs about 300 persons who work in three shifts. U. ' The Zoya knit underwear factory is probably a workshop of the Vasil Kolarov cotton complex. Part of its production is exported. It, as well as the Burya and the Gabrovo factories,manufactures underwear for the Bulgarian Army. The factory employs about 400 persons who work in three shifts. 12. The 1tb erin knit underwear factory is probably attached to the Vasil Kolarov cotton complex. Factories Located along the Road from the Shivarovia Rridge to. the Section of roam 13. The Vasil Kolarov workshop.?N?..1 is probably the central workshop of the Vasil Kolarov cotton complex. It has cotton combing, dyeing and spinning, rkshope, as well as a s1 am . cotton weaving section. The cotton yarn pro- duced by the factory is`sent-too workshop No. 2 of the Vasil Kolarov-factory and to various other cotton and knit underwear factories in the town for weaving. In 1953 or 1954 this factory was enlarged and an apartment house for the workers was built in the area. The Georgi Dimitrov canvas factory manufactures canvas and waterproof latterlAl primarily for army tents. It employs about 100 persons working three shifts. 19. L-shaped building.. about.90 meters long and 16 meters wide., factory manufactures various woolen materials from raw wool.
