SUBJECT: Briefing on CIA Security Background Investigation
and Reinvestigation for Lawrence Casey,
Administrative Assistant for Representative George
Wortley (R., NY)
1. On 5 August, I briefed Lawrence Casey,
Administrative Assistant for Representative George C.
Wortley (R., NY). Casey requested the briefing because of
his interest in drafting legislation to control leaks, and
to centralize security background investigations.
2. I gave an overview of the selection process and
security approval procedures. Casey expressed surprise to
learn that the process was complex, labor intensive, and
applied to all CIA employees/applicants irrespective of
position or status. He asked several questions about the
polygraph program; my answers were generalized and
undetailed.
