BOMB DAMAGE ASSESSMENT
BAGHDAD NUCLEAR RESEARCH CENTER, IRAQ
1. (S/D) SIGNIFICANCE: ASSESSMENT OF BOMB DAMAGE TO THE FRENCH
REACTOR AREA AT BAGHDAD NUCLEAR RESEARCH CENTER.
2. (S/D) RE11'iRKS: DAMAGE IS OBSERVED AT BAGHDAD NUCLEAR RESEARCH
CENTER. THAT THE STRUCTURAL DAMAGE TO 25X1
THE ISIS REACTOR BUILDING IS LESS SEVERE THAN PREVIOUSLY
KEPORTED. THE NORTHEAST SECTION OF THE ROOF OF THE ISIS
REACTOR HAS SUSTAINED I-IINOR DAMAGE. PIECES FROM THE ROOF OF
TIIE OSIRAK REACTOR BUILDING ARE LAYING ON TOP OF THE ISIS
REACTOR BUILDING. DAMAGE TO THE INTERIOR OF THE ISIS REACTOR
BUILDING CANNOT BE D=IERMIiIED. THE OSIRAK REACTOR BUILDING
DOES NOT APPEAR TO HAVE SUFFERED A DIRECT BOMB HIT. THE WALLS
ARE WARPED OUT OF ROUND AND PART OF THE ROOF HAS FALLEN
INSIDE. THIS DAMAGE IS PROBABLY DUE TO AT LEAST FIVE BOMBS
WHICH FELL TO THE LAST OF THE OSIRAK REACTOR BUILDING AND
WITHIN THE IETAL SCREEN. SOME OF THE INTERIOR COMPONENTS OF
THE BUILDING ARE VISIBLE.
(S/D) CLEANUP WORK IS NOT OBSERVED AT ANY OF THE DAMAGED
BUILDINGS; HOWEVER, PEOPLE ARE AT A GARAGE (NOT ON GRAPHIC) IN
TILE CE112RAL SECTION OF THE INSTALLATION. THIS GARAGE IS
IMMEDIATELY WEST OF THE DESTROYED AND DAMAGED SUPPORT BUILDINGS.
;S/D) IN ADDITION TO THE FIVE BOMB CRATERS AT THE OSIRAK
REACTOR BUILDING, AN UNDETERMINED NUMBER OF CRATERS ARE IN THE
AREA OF THE DESTROYED AND DAMAGED SUPPORT BUILDINGS. ALSO, ONE
CRATER IS ON THE WEST SIDE OF LABORATORY TWO AND ONE CRATER IS
ON THE WEST SIDE OF LABORATORY ONE (NOT ON GRAPHIC).
