1. SIGNIFICANCE:
VINH AIRFIELD IS IMPORTANT TO THE NORTH VIETNAMESE
AIR FORCE AS A POTENTIAL LOGISTIC SUPPORT AIRFIELD
CAPABLE OF SUPPORTING SUSTAINED TRANSPORT OPERATIONS
OR AS A JET FIGHTER RECOVERY BASE. IT IS THE
SOUTHERNMOST OPERATIONAL AIRFIELD IN NORTH VIETNAM.

3. REMARKS: THE RUNWAY AT VINH AIRFIELD HAS BEEN UNSERVICEABLE
SINCE D A NATURAL SURFACE STRIP PARALLELLIN(25X1
THE RUNWAY HAS BEEN INTERMITTENTLY SERVICEABLE SINCE
RUNWAY REPAIR COMMENCED IN LATE 0 25X1

4. COLLATERAL: THE RUNWAY IN ITS PRESENT STATE OF REPAIR IS
SERVICEABLE TO LIGHT AIRCRAFT AND PROBABLY TO JET
AIRCRAFT. FURTHER REPAIR ACTIVITY MIGHT INCLUDE
EFFORTS TO ROLL OR COMPACT THE RUNWAY SURFACE,
IMPROVE THE TAXIWAYS AND PARKING REVETMENTS, AND
DELINEATE THE RUNWAY PERIMETERS .

6. MISSION READOUT: LOW LEVEL PHOTOGRAPHY OF REVEALS THAT THE 25X1
RUNWAY AT VIlVH AIRFIELD IS NOW SERVICEABLE (TOP PHOTO). ALL THE CRATERS IN
THE RUNWAY HAVE BEEN FILLED AND THE SCRAPING ACTIVITY IS IN ITS F IlVAL STAGES.
THE WESTERN SHOULDER OF THE RUNWAY PREVIOUSLY USED AS A CRUDE LANDING STRIP
(MIDDLE PHOTO) HAS BEEN RETURNED TO ITS FORMER FUNCTION AND ITS DRAINAGE
DITCHES HAVE BEEN UNCOVERED AND MADE OPERATIONAL.
NUMEROUS TRUCKS AND PIECES OF CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT ARE OBSERVED IN THE
AREA.
