TAPASTE COMSAT GROUND STATION TAPASTE, COX- THE NEWLY IDENTIFIED COMSAT GROUND STATION NEAR TAPASTE, CUBA IS THE FIRST SOVIET COMSAT FACILITY IDEN- TIFIED OUTSIDE THE SOVIET UNION AND THE MONGOLIAN REPUBLIC. THE COMSAT FACILITY IS 16 NAUTICAL MILES SOUTHEAST OF HAVANA, 3.0 NAUTICAL MILES ENE OF TAPASTE, AND 3.5 NAUTICAL MILES WEST OF JARUCO AT 23-02-14N 082-04-45W. A CUBA-USSR SATELLITE COMMUNICATIONS AGREEMENT WAS REPORTEDLY SIGNED 8 JANUARY 1970.
