SIGNIFICANCE: SOVIET NAVAL COMBATANTS OBSERVED AT CIENFUEGOS PORT FACILITIES, CUBA ON 28 AUGUST 1973. 2. LOCATION: ?CIENFUEGOS PORT FACILITIES ARE ON THE SOUTHERN COAST OF CUBA AT 22-08-25N 080-27-20W. 3. REMARKS/ -ZOLLATERAL : ACCORDING TO A HAVANA DOMESTIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT (FBIS DAILY REPORT ON 31 JULY 1973), A GROUP OF SOVIET SHIPS CONSISTING OF THE DESTROYERS ADMIRAL ISAKOV AND DERZKY, A SUBMARINE AND A TANKER WAS TRANSITING THE ATLANTIC ON A TRAINING VOYAGE AND WOULD CALL AT These notes have been prepared for briefing purposes only and should not be used for detailed analytical work. AFTER VISITING HAVANA, THE SHIPS REPORTEDLY WOULD CALL AT OTHER CUBAN PORTS. ON 5 AUGUST (OLYMPIC FIRE MISSION GA007) AT HAVANA PORT , A KRESTA-II GUIDED MISSILE LIGHT CRUISER (CLGM) AND A KANIN GUIDED MISSILE DESTROYER (DDG) WERE MEDITERRANEAN-MOORED AT A QUAY JUST INSIDE THE ENTRANCE TO HAVANA HARBOR. AN E-II GUIDED MISSILE NUCLEAR SUBMARINE (SSGN) AND THE KANIN DDG WERE SECURED ALONGSIDE THE KRESTA-II AND AN OKHTENSKIY AUXILIARY RESCUE TUG (ATR) WAS NEAR THE STERN OF THE KRESTA-II. THE OTHER SOVIET SHIPS WERE NOT OBSERVED. 4. MISSION READOUT: ON 28 AUGUST AT CIENFUEGOS PORT, AN F-CLASS SUBMARINE WAS IDENTIFIED FOR THE FIRST TIME WITH THIS SOVIET NAVAL GROUP WHICH CONSISTED OF AN E-II SSGN AT THE FOUR-POINT MOORING, A KRESTA-II CLGM, A KANIN DDG AND AN OKIITENSKIY ATR.
