SIGNIFICANCE: IDENTIFICATION OF A DEFENSE LINE PROTECTING THE SOUTHWESTERN APPROACH TO DAMASCUS. 2. LOCATION: THE PORTION OF THE DEFENSE LINE SHOWN ON THE GRAPHIC IS LOCATED AT 33-25N 036-08E. IT IS APPROXIMATELY 9 NAUTICAL MILES SOUTHWEST OF DAMASCUS ALONG THE DAMASCUS - QNAITRA ROAD. 3. MISSION READOUT: THE DEFENSE LINE CONSISTED OF AN ANTI-TANK DITCH WITH TANK FIRING RAMPS SPACED APPROXIMATELY 300 TO 500 FEET APART. ROAD BLOCKS AT THE INTERSECTIONS OF THE MAJOR ROADS AND THE ANTI-TANK DITCH CONSISTED OF A FORWARD LINE OF ANCHORED STEEL I-BEAMS.
