6 May 1975
A meeting on this subject was held on 24 April 1975, attended by all
who were present at the earlier meetings.
At this latest meeting, it was agreed: (1) that the word "service"
is considered superfluous and should be eliminated from all sourcelines; (2) that
the word "domestic" is considered unnecessary for television transmissions and

included in sourcelines of official radios and press agencies; and (4) that
a list of the joint recommendations agreed upon at this and earlier meetings
he drawn up and FBIS London Bureau will present them to its headquarters for
approval. These joint recommendations are, in addition to the three above:
(a) that "domestic" and not "home" will he used for broadcasts intended
for a domestic audience; (b) that "external" should be substituted for all
phrases now used to indicate transmissions not intended for the domestic
audience or specifically targeted; (c) that the name of the country will he
included in sourcelines to which it could be usefully added, and a list of
such sourcelines will be prepared by BBC; (d) that domestic and external''
will be used in the sourcelines for any transmission that can accurately he
determined as intended for both the domestic and external audiences; (e) that
in sourcelines "to' and not "for" shall he used in description of destination;
and (f) that sourcelines for press agencies should include the destination when
this can be accurately determined.
It was also anr"ed that BBC will continue its restudy on the usage of
provincial' and 'regional' in sourcelines before recommending possible
changes in current practice.
Further discuqsinn of "clandestine' was deferred until a later date.
