ABSTRACT: The relationship totween atrophy, zwtabolism, and other changes brought
about by donorvation have boon examined in tonic and totanic'musclese Atrophy was
found to appoar oarlior in the tonic muscle than in the tof6Ao one. During_@@e 2-3
weeks'observation period, tfie atrophic process d44 not M an respects
follow the changes which occurred in metabolism. Changes in the glycolytio

oi atrophy has become histologically demonisirable. The changes in glycolysis
and oVgen uptake, following denervation, are :inverse in the two kindd of
muscle. These changes can not, therefore, be directly related to atrophy.
.On the other hand, a closer correlation may exist between.the high energy
'phosphate content, Ihe muscle cell phase, and atrophy,; Orige arto'hast'

ABSMCT: lActato ;u-A pyruvato production under aerobic conditions is the most cha-

metabolism of the -;keletal musculature on the basis of its ladtate and
pyruvate production during postnatal development.it has been established
that, iviriediately after birth, the metabolism of the skeletal muscles
-corresponds entiro'LY to that of the tonic muscles. The characteristic
metabolism of the -wtanic muscle is the result of postnatal differentiation..
,This differentiation of mqtabolism occurs parallel with the differentiation
of muscle function. Previous to the development of independent motion mid

ABSTRACT: In a study,of enterocolitis in children,, hemolyzing strains of Each. coli
were isolated in 31.0

was produced in youn4pultureso The authors suggest that the hemolyain isolated
from supernatant culftires in alkaline broth is of type 4fand probably a protein.
