liquids. For measurements in a circular canal
the formula of4Fowkes ZF for the drag on a cy-

TITLE: Influence of radiation sickness on biochemical changes in tissue after death
SOURCE: VoJenske zdravotnicke listy, no. 2, 1966, 62-65
TOPIC TAGS: radiation sickness, food preservation, food vtorage, tissue biochemistry
ABSTFLACTa Prompt killing of animals with radiation sickness may be necessary
to avoid economic lose. The quality of meat, its preservation, and its
suitability for processing were investigated. Pigs were subjected to 700 r
of radiation, and changes in pH, ammonia, and water content were observed at
room temperature (about 20C) and under refrigeration. The aging process was
faster in the meat of irradiated animals and spoilage occurred sooner than
in the meat of control animals. The spoiling process started about 2 days
sooner in the meat of irradiated pigs when stored at room temperature, and
even less than 2 days earlier in the refrigerated meat. The length of
preservation was inversely proportional to the degree of acute raliation
illness suffered by the animals whose meat was tested. Orig. art. hast 2

Abstract: It is possiblLe to use meat from the animals who were subjected to
radiation,,vhen such animals are killed before the clinical aspects of radiation
sickness have developed. The meat is suitable for use in permanent smoked
meat products., No differences between the fresh products were discovered; how-
ever, during storage such meat shows larger weight losses,, and the products
deteriorated more.rapidly than those from meat of control animals. 6 figures,

Abstract: Influonce of a dose of 700 r of gamina radiation on the
nietabolisn of r,-,lycosides in the blood and in the nuscle tissue
of pigs was investigated. In pigs that received a lethal whule-
body dose of irradiation, glycoside metabolism is disturbed; this
results in the upset of the balance between glucose and lactic
acid in the blood, and glycogen in the liver. The limitation of
oxidative synthesis of lactic acid in the blood is caused Drob-
ably by the lowered activity of liver Phosphorylase. 4 Figuresp

Abstract : Elementary principles and procedures involved in refrigeration
of game meat for preservation purposes are discussed, with details about
large and small game, fowl; temperature, humidity requirements. It is likely
that the current trend toward an increase utilization of game meat in
Bulgaria will continue for several years at least.

ITITLE: Stressed state of an anisotropic half-plane with a finite n*umber of elliptical!

'ABSTRACT: The author considers the distribution of stresses in an anisotropic half
!-,lane weakened by a finite number of elliptical holes with centers lying on a singl-e
!-straight line perpendicular to the boundary of the half-plane. The problem is solved
'for the case of two identical elliptical holes where the half-plane is subjected to
!tensile forces parallel to its boundary. Numerical results are given for stress dis
1~ribution in an orthotropic half-plane made from aviation plywood with circular and
elliptical holes. It is found that the boundary of the half-plane has a considerable
ieffect on stress distribution tu-ound the holes when the distance between the edges of
~t-he holes is leso than 2a where a is the semiaxis perpendicular to the boundary of
ithe half-plane. Stress concentration increases sharply when o
