The headquarters of the Hungarian AVH (Allamvedelmi Hatosag, State
Security Authority) is located in an eight-story building on Jaszai Mari ter.
In addition to the general offices, the building also houses the files of the
AVH, which contain a dossier on practically every inhabitant of the country.
The commander in chief of the AVH is MVD General Petrovich, and his Hun-
garian deputy is Colonel Lakatos. However, the latter name is a pseudonym.
as, in general, most AVH officers use corer names. Colonel Lakatos adjutant is
Captain Sin, a Soviet citizen. The medical department is headed by Lieutenant
Colonel Balint, the business administration by Colonel Ersek and Captain Gyori,.
and the motor pool by Lieutenant Deri.
The personal safety of the leading party functionaries is the responsibility
of a 1,200-man party guard headed by Lt Col Mihaly Jambrik..and Lt Col Lagos
Horvath. A special detachment of the party guard is assigned as escort to the
members of the Hungarian cabinet. The members of this detachment are men who
deserted to the Soviet troops during the last war and received special training
in the USSR. All officers have Hungarian names which are, however, cover names
without exception. The names of some of the officers are: First Lieutenants
Haraszti and Ferenc Csat and Sublieutenants Janos Lacsik, Istvan Voros, Jozsef
Katona, Jeno Vaozi, and Benedek.
Matyas Rakosi's personal guard is Major Bode, and Erno Gero's guard is
lst Lieutenant Ferenc Csat.
