According to a report by the Tien.ohing Municipal Mtrchendise Inspection
Bureau, October e.porte have increased in both quantity and quality over pre-
vious periods. For example, the October shipments of oil products amounted to
12,479.13 picnls, six tiles that of September; hog bristle exports in October
reached 571 cases or 3.92 times that of September. Bxporte of fresh eggs and
hog casings have also increased. Only egg and bean products and furs have suf-
fered a slight decline. So far as quality is concerned, the vegetable oils,
peacnts, auto, and furs were all up to required standards.
In all inspection of hog bristles by the bureau, only 500 cases out of
1,210 were up to the required standard.

Data released by the Bank of China and the Trade Control Bureau in Shang-
hai indicate that permits were issued between 1 June and 31 October for the
purchase of foreign exchange amounting to 8,509,498 T. dollars, 1,435,895
British pounds, and 30,140,721 Hong Kong dollars.

Iindcstrial raw material suppliers in Eong Kong have reported that the market
in these goods is more active than at any time within the last 2 years. North,
Central, ant South China buyers are very agent in their requests for supplies
of such things as caustic soda, pyrites, eta.
Shang-hai alone has asked for more than 9,000 barrels of caustic soda.
Local supplies of the above materials are completely sold out and local dealers
are placing large orders abroad. One firm has ordered 8,000 tone of caustic
soda flan America. It is expected that 30,000 barrels of caustic soda will
reach Hang-tong by the and of this year; 6,000 barrels of this are already an
route from England.
Ten ships coming into flag Kong before the end of the year from England
and the TS are expected to bring in supplies of pyrites amounting to more than
10,000 tons.
