SHANG-RAI FACTORIES MOVE INLAND MOVE EQUIPMENT TO T'IEN-CHING, ANHWEI -- Hein.-wen Jih-pao, 18 Aug 49 For reasons of convenience in the securing of raw materials and the dis- tribution of finished products, Shang-hai factories are moving portions of their production facilities to the interior of China. The well-known Ching Fu Undergarment az:d Hosiery Company decided to move a portion of its equipment to T'ien?ching. A rIcent report from the company's agent in Tien-ching stated that the location for the factory had been selected and the necessary capital raised. The quantity of machinery to be moved will depend on the amount of space secured. At the present Shang-hai plant, there are 480 workers and 92 knitting machines. In July 1949, the daily output of ga:-ments, such as undershirts, etc., was approximately 160 dozens. Most of these were distributed in North China. Because of distribution and ether difficulties, it was decided to move the production facilities to an aree easily accessible to the excellent markets in the Northeast. Since experienced workers are not abundant in the T'ien- ching area, the Shang-hai workers will be transferred along with the equipment. Chang Yao-k'uei (Ueda: 3065, 9249, 1980), in charge of the Tien-ching plant, stated that another reason for this move -is that there are many textile mills in the Ch'ing-tao and TI ien-ching areas and 'that raw materials are readily available. Another Shang-hai factory, the government-operated China Edible Oils Com- pany, also plans to move one-half of its equipment to northern Anhwei Province in one of the following locations, Ho-fei, Pang-fou, or Wu-hu. This factory has equipment to extract vegetable and hemp oil. 9 IISRB FBI DISTRIBUTION L - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2011/09/29: CIA-RDP80-00809A000600291007-1 Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2011/09/29: CIA-RDP80-00809A000600291007-1 Prior to the liberation of this area, two of the latest model oil- extraction presses were ordered from the US. These have a capacity of extracting oil from 1,197,000 pounds of vegetable sees per month. GLASS FACTORY TO MOVE TO SHEN-YANG -- Hsin-wen Jih-pao, 18 Aug 49 Owners and workers of the Chung-yang Glass Factory agreed on transferr- ing the entire plant from Shang-hai to Shen-yang within the next 2 months. This move is based on the need for the development of industries in the Northeast, which, in turn, means that the demand for glassware and glass equipment is great. The personnel in charge of the plant have gone to Shen-yang to make plans for the transfer, and three workers' representatives have made a survey of the living conditions in Shen-yang. Approximately 80 employees and their families will move with the factory. Those not moving will be given liberal termination pay. The furnaces will be rebuilt in Shen-yang with local firebrick, which is comparatively inexpensive. TO TRANSFER EQUIPMENT TO CHI-MAN -- Hsin-wen Jih-Pao, 18 Aug 49 After the take-over of the Chung-yang Pharmaceutical Company by the Shang- hai Department of Industries, it was decided that a portion of the equipment would be transferred to Chi-nan at the request of the Chi-nan Hsin-hua Phar-' maceutical Plant. A Shang-hai industrialist, Chen Hsi-heiang is planning to establish an edible. oils extraction plant in the middle of the cotton-producing area of north Kiangsu. New types of equipment are to be used and the extraction of cotton seed oil will be the main operation of the plant, while the extraction of vegetable oils will be secondary. Plans have been submitted to the Industrial and Commercial Department of the North Kiangsu Administrative Office for approval. The T'ai-pei Hsien T'ai- chou special office has already given approval to the project, which will be a great boost to industry, to farm production, and to economic expansion. The Ta-chung Glue Chemical Refinery Company has decided to move from Shang-hai to Han-k'ou, after encouragement by the government to producers to move to the interior in order to be closer to raw material sources. This factory produces about 12 metric tons of liquid glue per month. The raw material used is e. by-product of tanneries which are largely located in Han-k'ou. This city is also a transportation center from which glue may be sent to such users as the match, pharmaceutical, dyexand pencil industries. Since some of the glue-processing equipment is very large, the Shang-hai Industrial and Commercial Department has been requested to aid in transporting part of the equipment. The factory manager, Wang Jen-hsun (Ueda: 7262, 168, 10909), has solicited the aid of his friends in Pang-fou to seek a satisfactory location for the plant.
