BUILD ROADS, RECONSTRUCT BRIDGES IN RUEGARY -- Budapest, Nepezava, 1 Jun 52
In Somogy Megye 23 kilometers of roads are being built. Of 165 war-
damaged small bridges 142 have already been restored. At present, restoration
work on seven bridges is under vay,
Rebuilding of the Balatonkeresztur bridge is progressing simultaneously
with the construction work of the Nagykanizea (Za1e Megye) highway. The
Balatonkeresztur bridge will bA opened at the end of August 1952.
In gala Megye the Brllatonkeresztur-Nsgykanizsa section of the Balcton high-
way will be rebuilt. The modernized section will be 10 meters wide.
In Tolna Megye a 10-kilomu,.ar-lcng road is under construction bet,ean Zavod
and ICisvbjse.

The plan for average loading of freight cars in 24 hours was fulfilled 100.9
percent. Compared with the second quarter 1951, the average loading of freight
cars in 24 hours has increased by 8.8 percent.
The average utilization of locomotives within a 24-hour period has been in-
creased 4.1 percent, as compared with the same period in 1951.

The plan for the transportation capacity of Inland water transport was
fulfilled 100.8 percent, and 5ate7 freight transportation has increased 4.8
percent above the volume of similar traffic in the second quarter 1951.
The volume handled by the postal service during the second quarter 1952
has increased 17.9 percent, as compared with the same period in 1951.

7n 1951, the Rumanian freight transportation plan was fulfilled 109.4 per-
cent; the passenger transportation plan, 116.4 percent. Plan fulfillment by
the railroad freight service was 112.1 percent; by the railroad passenger ser-
vice, 116.1 percent. For automobile transport, the figures were 111.3 per-
cent for the freight service and 123.8 percent for the passenger service.
Although the turnaround time of freight cars was reduced by 4.1 percent,
the acceleration of average turnaround of loaded cars as envisaged in the plan
coild not be attained. Transportation costs were reduced by 12.1 percent, a
greater reduction than planned. Fuel consumption was reduced by 10.4 percent.
