M. Kirov at the mine face No 3 which works the Yemel'yanovskiy seam. This seam is 1.1 meters thick, dips at an angle of 7 degrees, and the side walls are of soft argillite. Operations with the combine at this mine face, however, were soon discontinued because of repeated breaks in the roof and the combine was used instead at the 140-meter-long mine face No 22 which works the Boldyrevskiy seam. This seam is 1.6-1.8 meters thick, dips at an angle of 6-7 degrees,, and the side walls are of moderately firm argillite. Since the combine's cutting bar is only one meter high, its operation left 0.6?-0.8 meter of coal in the roof. After the combine had passed by, this coal was loosened, thus interfering with the propping of the mine face. At the sug- gestion of innovators, a combine was provided with a hinged ring-shaped cutting bar, l.45 meters high, and was put into use at the mine faces No 22 and 23 of the Boldyrevskiy aewi. The best results from the use of the Donbass combine were achieved by section No 10 which works the Snyatkovskiy seam at mine face No 25, 130 meters long. The Snyatkovskiy seam is 1.4 meters thick and dips at an angle of 7 degrees. The cut- ting bar of the combine was, in this case, 1.3 meters high. Work at the mine face is organized on a schedule of one cycle per 24 hours, consisting of two coal-extraction shifts and one repair and development-work shift. The workers of the section have been regularly completing a cycle every 24 hours with the aid of the' Donbass combine. The quarterly plan for coal extraction was fulfilled 116.3 percent and for labor productivity 190-percent. The.number of workers at the mine face has been decreased by 22. Above-plan coal extraction amounted to 4,150 tons. During March 9,500 tons of coal were mined by the Donbass combine. Mine workers have made a number of suggestions aimed at a more efficient use of combines and mastery of operational details in a short time. At present an experiment with two combines, one on top of the other, is being carried out in the Zhurinka-3 Mine to remove a seam 2 meters thick. the La eni ne im In spite of the relatively short period, the combines in - Kirov have made substantial achievements, but are still far behind those of the outstanding mines of the Donets Basin.
