The school for apprentices is in a two-story brick building .ocated in the v.uin- Itytof theomine. During the first year theory of mining is the principal subject, n year ow y eight hours a week are devoted to theory; the rest rf the time is spent in practical mining, actually working in the mines. The main reason is the obligatory political education throughout the entire day as they bear about the Soviet Union, the Communist Party, the great Stalin etc. The first thing in the morning the radio plays Russian songs and reports about fulfill- ment or nonfulfillment of the plan. The instructors for the defense of the country are officers from the Ostrava garrison. In these lectures special attention is given to the defense of the factory facilities. The same training is also given the members of the workers' militia (factory militia). 7. Plans 'Vt7w being made to build a central shaft. It is expected that there will be six such central shafts in Ostrava. Up to the present time some of these shafts have been built in the General Svoboda mines and'in the Stalin II mine. Coal will be transported through these shafts. In the meantime, however, they are used only fcr mining.
