The All-China Federation of Labor (ACFL) in Pei-p'ing issued a
press release describing the preparations for the Trade-Union Conference
of Asian and Austrs asiLa Countries to be ;:eld from 16 to 22 November 1949.
The press relies. stated:
"The Executive Bureau of the World Federation of Trade Ilntons
(WWFTU), rhict has been in Pei-,,'iug for some time making the necessary
preparations, will be in charge of the conference.
"There will be 58 Chinese delegates attending the conference. In
addition, delegates from the USSR, Mongolia, North and Rolath Korea, India,
Viet Nan, Burma, Thai]#nd, Ceylon, Indonesia, Philip9intn, llminys, Iran,
Australia, New Guinea, and Japan will attend.

The Trade-Union Conference of Asian and Australasian Countries,
nesting in Pei-p'ing from 16 to 22 November 1949, decided on a rnree-pW.nt
agenda, which will include (1) reports on the activities of the WYPU
and. the future tasks of the trade-union movements :n Asian and Australasian
countries; (2) reports on the trade-union aovements in the Asian countries;
and (3) establishment of' the Asian Bureau of the WFTU.
'In the first day of the conference, 16 November, Liu Ring-i, deputy
chairman of the ACFL, announced the nrnes of 20 conference committee chairmen.
They include: Louis Saillant, Liu Shao-ch'i, Soloviyev (USSR), Vicente
Lombardo Toledano (Latin America), F. Zupka (Czechoslovakia), B. Blokzyil
(Holland). A. Le Leap (France), Lazaro Peua (Cuba), Abudulla Diallo (Sudan),

"Y'vr more than 100 years," the editorial vent on, "the peoples in Asian
and Australasian countries have been handcuffed and oppcossed by the western
capitalists. The peoples in the East are now awakening and fighting to
secure freedcr end democracy from these oppressors. Under Soviet guidance,
we must form a aclid bloc to oppose world imperialists and win ultimate world
xace."
Tic Kung-min Jih-pao, on the same day, emphasized that the conference will
help the Cninese working class to unite with the vurking claw: of the world,
end that the Chinese people should take advantage of the conference to learn
from other countries their cultural and scientific "kuov-hov" and, at the
same time, improve friendly relationships.

Pei-ping, 17 November (NCNA) -- The second day of the Trade-Union Conference
was highlighted by Saillant's-speech on the "Activities of the WFTU and
the Mission of the Conference," and the resolution. submitted by Choi Kyong-dok,
the North Korean delegate.
Choi asked the removal of all US and British occupation forces and

Perhaps the most important address of the whole Pei-p'ing Trade Union
Conference was deli"- ed by Li Li-san on the sixth. day of the conference.
Li Li-oj?,r, vice chairman of the ACFL, talked about the Chinese working
class and the people's victory, the present status of the Chinese labor
^.ovemont, and the future duties of the Chinese labor movement.
"The correct policy to pursue in the labor movement is first, to
organize the pessantiy. This can be done by winning their support by
land reform, reduction of rents and interests, etc. Next, it is
essential to win the support of the .etty bourgeoisie and the intelligentsia.
"The Chinese labor policy is based on more work and more pay, on
increase of production to benefit both labor and management, and on giving
health, insurance, and welfare protection to workers.
"The ACFL is planning to organize all workers in Chinn within a year.'

22 November. During the final session, it was agreed to establish the
Arian Bureau of the WFTU.
