The Berlin Quartz-Melting Plant in Heineradorf obtains quartzware from
crystalline quartz sand and utilizes it for the production of acid-proof and
temperature-resistant laboratory equipment, as well as materials for the chem-
ical and electrical industries. Quartzware, which can be produced in various
shapes, is nontransparent. It is molded at a temperature of 1,720 degrees
centigrade and is temperature-resistant up to 1,150 degrees centigrade. Sub-
sequent changes in form are carried out at a temperature of 2,000 degrees cen-
tigrade. Substantial export orders have been received

NEW PARAFFIN-COATING INSTALLATION -- Nachrichten fuer Aussenhandel, No 37,
17 May 50
The people-owned Universal Polygraph Stamping Machine Factory in Leipzig
has developed a new-type paraffin-coating installation for boxes, cups, and
similar hollow containers. The machine can coat 5,000 articles per hour. The
factory has produced small coating machines in the past, but this is the first
mechanism produced which is suitable for mass production. The new machine can
also coat fair-sized articles in a continuous process. The coating process re-
quires 15 to 20 minutes for each article.
DEVELOPS NEW BINDING AGENT -- Nachrichten fuer Aussenhandel, No 37, 17 May 50
The Niedersachewerfen Anhydride Plant has developed a new binding agent,
I1Pyramit',Il which is almost universally applicable as an air-drying binder.
Only a small amount of coal is needed for the production of the new binding
agent. "Pyramit" is not a substitute for cement because, unlike cement, it is
not a hydraulic but an air-drying binding agent.

The Paper Container Factory; Ltd, in Kleinmachnow near Berlin, produces
waterproof, oilproof. and fireproof cardboard containers, which are perfect
substitutes for metal containers The containers are made of glue-covered
paper. dipped in potassium silicate, and covered with lacquer, which gives
them a metallic appearance. They are very light and unbreakable. The fac-
tory produces containers in all sizes, from very small ones to 100-kilogram
barrels
REPORTS INCREASED DEMAND FOR PHARMACEUTICAL PRODUCTS Nachrichten fuer

The Vasenol Plant in Leipzig, which belongs to the Association of
People-Owned Enterprises for Pharmaceutics, reports an increasing demand
for its trade-marked products from all over the world. The plant produces
prewar qualities. of infants supplies, drugs, dressings for burns, and tam-
pons. According to trade agreements negotiated (luring the International
Fairs in Poznan and Prague, the Vasenol Plant will supply the necessary con-
centrates to ct.her firms, who, in turn, will produce the drugs.
The Vasenol Plant. which was 80 percent destroyed in 1943, has regained
its prewar capacity.
