A Harr scientific iastitutey the White Sea Biological Station, has been
erected 7.n the Karalc-Finnish SSR.. The station?a main task is to study the
prcdu:;tivity of th?~ White Sea.
The station's director is Candidate of Biological Sciences Z. G. Palen=
i.chkc. At present, scientists ass engaged in developing theories based on
data obtained during tie firs* expeditions which went to study the White Sea
resources.

The general meeting of the~Academy of Sciences Ukrainian SSR was held on
8 December in Kiev. Academician Secretary 16. P. 3emenenko made a speech~on
the academy~a scientific research plan for 1950. The plan, according to Semen-
enko, presr_nta 142 problems of great scientific and national importance. It
provides for 80 scientific expeditions, in which geologists, botanists, zoolo-
gists, aylvic.ilturists, srchsrologists, philologists, and other scientific
workers will take part.

be con?tructed in 1x50. F. P. Belyankin, member of the Academy of Sciences
Ukrainian SSR, to his speech on the academy's publishing plan for 1950 stated
that 309 scientific works having a volume of over 4,000 printed pages will be'
