In October 1951, the Central Committee of the Czechoslovak Communist Party
decided to carry out far-reaching mechanization in the Ostrava Karvinna black-
coal region. This action may result in the production of 17 million tons of
black coal in 1952, as compared with the production of one million in 1951.

After the first blast furnace of the Klement Gottwald Ironworks in Kuncice
was put into operation, the construction of a second blast furnace was under-
taken at the )Molotov Ironworks at Trinec and is nearing completion. This
furnace; 75 met-ere high, i bigger than the one in Kuncice. It is expected to
go into production during the first half of 1952.
