bank is wooded and drops steeply to the river,

Not to be con!uaed with the Ohlava River which, coming from the
south, empties into the Mies River near the city of ~4iea.
The Uhlava River to a right tributarof the fadbusa and joiris with
thu latter above Pi~oen (Plzen). Along the headward portion there are many
rocky bluffs; above Neuern (Nyreko) there is a broad meadow valley and the
banks consist of pastureland. Only a short distancc before the river junction
iq it a military obstruction.
Crossings: 16 road bridges (1DR 4250, Number ll~), 6 Loot bridges,
3 railroad bridges. ,
Iupa - Upa
Is the left tributary of the Elbe River (Labe), .,nd flaws into the
latter near Joaefstartt (Joe?fov).

River Bottom: rooky until Freih it (3vobada n. U,), thon r&vclly

Valley: as far as Boehm. 3ka1itz, it ie narrow, has stet p walla and
is rocky in places. Above Boehm. 3ka1itz, there i? a dam with an
artificial lako (B9 356, Number 94). East of Trautanau (Trutnov)
and south of Eipel (Upic a) as far as Baehr, Kamnit z (C. Kamnice ),
the valley is gorelike. at of t'autenau tho valley has A basin,
4 kilometers long and 1 kilometer wide.
Valley Jidbhu: with the exception of the basin east of Trautenau, the
valley is up to 3X 400 meters in width; the valley floor is fre-
quently covered with vngetatton, but it does have paths and can be
oro?sed on foot. Below Boehm. 3ka1itz, the valley floor is over
2 kilometers wide and open, and often oov?red with brush,

Beraun - Berounka
Is the largest left tributary of the Moidau River (Vltava), fl.nd flown
into the latter about kilometors south of Prague. Originateo east of Pilsen
(Plzen) at the confluence of the Mies (se), Anga1(Uh1ava) and Radbusa Itivore. The
Beraun River is a definite military obstruction. The river bottom is stony and
sandy throughout its entire length. During sdverewinter s the river does not u-
sually freeze over until below the city of Berpybn, but the river is riot navigable
in any case. In general, only the Radbusa giver roaches the flood stage; the flood.
ins of the banks occurs only below Pilsen and Boraun and is also unusual and insig-
nif icant .

The river :13 riot regulated and, at present, not yot navigable. Dikes have
been built along the lower course of the Reraun t ivcr below the city of ~3eraun.
There are numerous river dams (articia1).
The construction of a large eraun, valley dam is planned near Fuerplitz
(Krivoklat) in order to improve the navigability o? the lbe giver and to
produce power. The subsequent oe,nali~atic n of the l3eraun River for a length
of 135 1ilometors (as far as Aileen) ie further provided for.

year at the beginning of summer. High water stage occurring in the
spring is 1 to 2 weeks in duration, and of a few daysi duration in
the oummortime. The high water stage in oummer exceed j (Elie former,
the water rising up to 5 meters above the medium water etage.
Valley Characteristics and Conditions,
upper Betschwa (Hor. l3ecva, Vsetinoka 13eeva).
Heights of Valley elevations; wooced uplands and mountainous
country, difficult to cross on foot.
Slopes of Valley, rather steep; as far as Vsotin, gullies are
frequently worn into the :rides. Betweon Flalienkau(Halenkov)
and :fusty (Usti.) the slores on the right side are steeper
and more diffioult to cross on foot; downstream from Aunty,
the slopes on the left side are steeper and more difficult
to cross on foot. As far as (lusty, the right side of the
valley slope often is very close to the water, and rises very
steeply for 2O-3d meters above the base,
