Senior Review Panel Comments-on Draft
Special National Intelligence Estimate
(SNIE) 37-89: Afghanistan: The War in
Perspective (Fast-Track), internally
dated 20 November 1989
1. The Panel has considered the Afghan draft over the two
hours since its receipt. Generally, our quick impression of the
paper is that it covers the essentials of the problem, is well-
organized, and for the most part clearly written.
2. Our only further comment is to suggest that the draft
would be strengthened by the inclusion of some economic data for
the Kabul regime, the Interim Government, and the resistance
groups. Much of this--including some quantification of Soviet
and non-Soviet aid--could be carried by a few well-chosen
graphics.
