'RANDLE VIA TALENT - C KEYHOLE CH.ANNELS ONLY Attachment to TCS 2895-64 THE TECHNICAL INTELLIGENCE DIVISION MONTHLY REPORT FOR JUNE 1964 TID 1. The workload for June showed a sharp increase and was well above the average for this calendar year. This was due to the input of two successful KH-4 "J" Missions. The actual number of projects received in June decreased; however, the large number of man-hours required to handle new inputs resulted in an esti- mated backlog at the end of the month of 7,636 man-hours as com- pared with 6,544 in May and the 1964 average of 5,914. In addition, TID expended 6,620 man-hours (1,387 was 0.T.) on projects in June as compared to 4,987 man-hours (460 was 0.T.) in May. Of the total project time, 83% was devoted to National and 17% to Support projects. 2. During June, TID hosted 27 visitors, some of which were here several days or made repeated visits. These visits were concerned with special projects in work, mission attitude reduction and PET studies. TAB 1. The above normal workload occasioned by the four KH-4 inputs was aggrivated by time reduction difficulties and the dual, independent determination of attitude undertaken on Mission 1006 to test and compare horizon versus stellar methods. However, during June a giant step forward was made when the new horizon attitude reduction computer program was successfully utilized. This program eliminates a substantial portion of the hand opera- tions necessary, thus reducing the man hours required by some 60 percent. Despite the heavy burden of handling the inputs, TAB managed to devote sufficient workerfort on national PI projects to prevent a build-up of backlog; however, the volume of new photography is expected to result in increased requests for PI mensuration support. A significant milestone was achieved by the use of the NRI, with its on-line real time response, in providing all measure- ments for the last four OAKs. The reliability of measurements achieved, the quick response, and the ability for joint PI-photo- grammetrist selection of pointings via the NRI projected image all contribute to improved OAK support. 3. A total of 576 hours of instrument time, including 53 on the NRI, was logged in June-compared with 310 hours in May, only 7 of which were on the NRI. Likewise, 58,795 instrument pointings were made as compared to 26,541 in May. Projects received and completed were about equally divided between national and support. TSB 1. The branch worked on 39 missions, old and new, including 18 Golden Trees, 11 Lazy Daisys, five K1I-4, two KH-7, and three "G" detachment training missions. A total of 440 man hours was spent at Eastman Kodak in the editing, breakdown, and titling of missions. 2. NRO's establishment of a KH-4 PET to report on each mission accounted for a portion of the large number of visitors. Support of this PEJJ effort will become a significant TSB activity, requiring considerable man-hours. In addition, two Hycon representatives spent a week in TSB reviewing Talent "B" photography. 3. The photo mosaic index backlog was eliminated. A total of 5,725 mosaics have been prepared and turned over to CSD. 4. TSB received an unusually large number of requests for statistical coverage data in June; All KH-4 and KH-7 data has been prepared for computer processing and a format developed for publishing a comprehensive statistical report in July.
