Construction work on the circuit railroad around Berlin is the responsibility of the Chief Construction Office (Oberbauleitung) No. 5 of the Berlin Direc- torate of the State Railroads (RED Berlin)a ghlimps_ni,j_iailroad Administrative Areae The present administrative area of .RED Berlin is considerably smaller than formerly. The present boundaries of RED Berlin are to be contracted and brought into closer correspondence with the actual boundarise of the city of Berlin. The Koenigs Wusterhausen-Odern railroad line and the Niederlehme-Beeekov line have been transferred to the Frankfurt/Oder Railroad Office (Reichsbahnaet- RBA) No. 7. Railroad district No. 7 has alga been extendedalong the Berlin- Frankfurt/Oder rail line. 3. An administrative reorganization of the Berlin city railroad district is antici- pated in the near future. The individual railroad offices are te be di banded as RBA's,but they will be continued as purely operative office eith op- erational functions. All administrative eutiee are to be devolved upon lower ranking offices or transferred to the Railroad Directorate itself. Only the Frankfurt/Oder Railroad Office, being a border office, is to be maintained with its present organization. The area of RBA 7 will be considerably extended. 4. The final boundaries of RED Berlin will be located approximately at Erkner and at Koenigs Wusterhausen, 50 Construction on Control Towers Turmetellwerke) 50X1 ft On the southern section of the Outer Ring there are several control towers. These structures are 5 to 7 stories high. On their roofs are cement platforms surrounded by railings. They have built-in connections for heavy electric cerreee� The top floor of each tower is to serve as a guardroom (Mannechafts- oder Wachealed). The towers are so constructed that, in an emergency, 2.3 cm, anti-aircraft gene with searchlights could be installed upon their roofs. II above is located between Mahlow and Dahlewitz in the triangle formed by the lines Mahlow-Dehlewitzs Southern Outer Rings and the curve from the Southern Outer Ring on the line Mahlow-Dahlewitz in the direction of Zossen. 6. Outer Berlin Ring Cable PE212,22 Theenewly constructed,Mahlow automatic telephone exchange (Base) lies in the angle formed by_thit.Makelow-Zoseen and Southern Outer Ring railroad linee. This exchange is a pert of the Outer Berliniing cable prol*et (Projekt der Verkabelung des Aunsenringes um Berlin). Other sections of this cable project are as follows: a. A 136-pair cable is to be laid from the Ost-exchange (Base Oat) at the Silesian Railroad Station (Schleisischer Bahnhof)s through the long- distance telephone office at Markgrafendamme the Rummeleburg-stations and the Karlshorst station on the Southern Outer Ringo past the Gruenauer Kreuz control tower to the Mahlow exchange. On the Outer Ring, the cable is run either along the foot of the embankment on the right-hand side, or aloes the right-hand top edge; over bridges it is laid in the middle of the track. b. At the Schoenefeld towers 78 conductors (Adern) are brought into this cable and out again. The Mahlov exchange-office is not yet connected up. c. From the Mdhlow exchanges a 110-pair cable rune to the Michendori . , switchboard (Schaltstelle) beside the MW tower. From this points, there are connections with the entire cable network of the Reichob,hn and with the long-distance cable running along the autobahn. d. A 120-pair cable has been laid between Rathenow and Brandenburg where no cable was previously available. 7. Futureetapansion a. The cable programfor 1955 calls for: :(1) A 78-pair cable between Karow and Blankenburgs on the Northern Outer Ring, for which, at the present time telegraph lines eee being requisitioned (veggenommen). ( ) A 78-pair cable between Birkenverder and Wustermarks on the Noz Outer Ring. The construction progee tor 1956 calls for: (1) The rebuilding of the Wriezen-Neuruednitz rail line up to the Polish border; these tracks were dismantled in 1945-1946 on Russian orders. The Oder bridge has been In operation since 1954. On the Polish side of the river, the railroad is double - tracked. On the German sides the construction of, ;c1:-Tife:- line (Uebergebegleise) is planned. 8. Miscellaneous Notes a. When the long-distance telephone building on the aArkgrafendamm is reedy to function, the Mitte-exchange at the Anhalter BalmRof in West Ber1111 will be eliminated. b.
