Price Director of Personnel SLBJECT: Symposium on Women's Issues 1. Action Requested: a. Request that you sign the attached letter which formally invites Senator Nancy L. Kassebaum to be the keynote speaker for the upcoming CIA Symposium on Women's Issues (TAB A). The Office of Equal Employment Opportunity has scheduled the program in the Headquarters Auditorium to begin at 0900 hours, on 14 October 1987. b. Request you ask the DCI to meet with Senator Kassebaum in his office at 0845 on the morning of the program, escort her to the auditorium at 0855, and say a few words of introduction to kick off this occasion. (The DCI's secretary has been given the information on this event.) 2. B ccg ound: a. The OEEO has been in touch with Ms. Ann Shirley, Staff Assistant to Senator Kassebaum, who encouraged us to extend the invitation and feels the Senator will give a quick affirmative response. b. The proposed conference is intended to help Agency professional, technical, and clerical women focus more clearly on their career choices. The agenda will reflect the changing role of women in today's society, the obstacles they face in the work place and, for many, the challenge of balancing responsibilities at work with their jobs as homemakers. We expect 300 to 500 employees to attend. c. A suggested text is being prepared for you by the Office of Public Affairs. The symposium will continue for the entire day, and we would be pleased to have you stay as long as your schedule permits. d. A brief biographic sketch on the career of Senator Kassebaum and agenda are attached at TAB B.
