Prior to 6 Fe:Irua-:, 1951, the PS battalion in Rozvadov (hosshaupt, U 50/ P 43) was subordinate to the PS brigade headquarters rh*ch was located in the castle at the western perinete.. of Plana (I; 50/P 55) and onmarded by an MEI captain. * 21 The battalion in Rozvadov rns commanded by MID Lieutenant royka, (fnu), whose deputy was SUB Lieutenant Havel, (fnu). It was organized into five corranies -,hich were-.:tai,ioned in Diana (1! 50/P 52), U Diana, al-,out 3 km vest of Dianaberg; Steole, about 6 km west-northwest of Dianaberg; Rozvadov; and Nove Domky (Veuhaeusl, N 50/P 43). 3. The PS corrany in U Diana numbered 45 soldiers, including 15 SNB veterans. About half of the soldiers were Czechs. The company had submachine guns models 48-A and 4C-B and six light machine guns, model 26. It was assigned a border sector about 3 kr wide, which vas controlled by two or three patrols who occasionally had trrined dogs -.ith them. Several patrols or two soldiers each were also assigned to guard duty in the rear of the border zone. The company was connected with the battalion headquarters by field telephone. In case of alarm, the company was to occupy the border at prepared positions with light machine guns; only a mall guard detail would rerain at quarters. 4. Because morale was very low, duty was performed perfunctorily. Even veteran SUB personnel of the coLpany stated that they would prefer a return to civilian life rather than border guard service. Infantry Regiment in Breclav. (fnu)0 hold- ing an undetermined position on the regimental staff; and Captain Gustav Elsner, commanding officer of an infantry company. 7e The regimental headquarters units consisted of a headquarters company, a reconnaissance compapy? a technical company and an artillery company. Only one infantry company and the heavy machine gun company of the battalion in Breclav were known. A, submachine gun company, a heavy madaine gun company, a heavy weapons company and an NCO school were observed in Mikulov. Soldiers in Vikulov said that anbther battalion of their regiment was located in Hodonin. Numeroua supply runs between Breclav and Hodonin also indicated that troops of the regiment were stationed in Uodonin. The companies numbered from 30 to 50 soldiers, as many soldiers had been detached for work with coal mining and forest brigades. There were numerous EM who had previously aerved with the German Arred Forces. So The equipment of the regiment included German riflessmodel 98-NICzech submachine gunslmodels 48-A and 48-B, light machine guns, model 26, heavy machine guns, model 37, 45-mm guns, 82-mm mortars, bazookas and incendiary bottles. About 30 German field telephones and some radio sets were available,. The regiment was furnished with 25 new horse-drawn vehicles in August 1950. Three trucks and three passenger car a belonged to the regiment. 9. In January 1950, the regimental troops practiced at battalion level at the Yesto Libava (P 50/0 07) troop training grounds. A two.eweek AT defense course was held in Mikulov in March 19500 the training courses taught the use of bazookas, incendiary bottles and mines. Mines were laid in a chessboard pattern, 3 or 4 meters apart. In May 1950, the regiment was reinforced by about ?,000 reservists and together with a unit from Brno it started regimental field trait-Ong at the Mesto Libava troop training grounds. The first phase of that training was firing practice with live ammunition. Infantry Unit in Tabor 10. Prior to October 1950, Inf Unit commanded by a colonels was located in a barracks installation of 3 three-story buildings north- west of Tabor (0 50/M 01)o Only the U and B companies numbering about 40 soldiers who were armed with German rifles model 98-N and Czech sub- machine models 48-A and 48-B. On 1 October 1950, the unit received about 1,500 recruits, who were allegedly organized into about 10 recruit companies. An artillery unit was also stationed in Tabor, ** Comment. Besides the battalion in Rozvadov, battalions in Dolni Zandov? Chodova Plana and Marianske Lazne are subordinate to b igade. Comment. The name indicates the 10th Inf Regt; its complete name is Jams . a eho Koziny. Czechoslovakian newspapers of 1949 mentioned that the regiment was stationed in Brno.
