RE: Speaking Invitation
American Whig-Cliosophic Society
Princeton University
Convenient Fall Date
Secretary of the American Whig-Cliosophic Society at Princeton University,
Henry J. Ricardo, has invited you to speak before the American Whig-Cliosophic
Society at Princeton University during their Fall Speakers Program on a
mutually convenient date. The suggested format is an early dinner with
students and faculty, followed by an evening speech or any other format of
your choice.
According to Henry Ricardo, the American Whig-Cliosophic Society founded
in 1765 by James Madison, is the largest student organization at Princeton
University and the oldest college literary, political, and debating society in
the world. The Society invites prominent national and international figures
to speak on or debate important political issues. Past speakers have included
Gerald Ford, Walter Cronkite, Queen Noor, and Warren Burger.
Since you already have many commitments for this fall, I recommend that
you decline this invitation for a later date. If you agree, attached is a
STAT letter for your signature.

Dear Mr. Ricardo:
Thank you for your kind invitation to speak to the American
Whig-Cliosophic Society at Princeton University during your Fall Speakers
Program. Due to my many official duties and heavy travel schedule, I am
unable to speak to your group at this time. Thank you for thinking of me.
Perhaps I will be able to accept the honor at some later date. Best wishes
for a successful program.
Sincerely yours,

We would be extremely honored if you would speak before the American Whig-
Cliosophic Society at Princeton University during our Fall Speakers Program. Since our
schedule is quite flexible, such a visit would be at your convenience.
The American Whig-Cliosophic Society was founded in 1765 by James Madison, and
has since flourished at Princeton University. It is the largest student organization at
Princeton, and the oldest college literary, political, and debating society in the world.
The Society has a longstanding commitment to speech and political debate. As part of
this commitment we invite speakers of national and international importance. Past speakers
have included Jacob Javits, Meg Greenfield, Golda Meir, Gerald Ford, Walter Cronkite,
Warren Burger, and Queen Noor al Hussein of Jordan. We would be very pleased to have
you speak as well.
Our usual program is an early evening dinner with students and faculty, followed by an
evening speech. However, we can arrange whatever sort of appearance you might prefer.
The Society will cover all of your expenses.
Sincerely,
Henry J. Ricardo
Secretary of the Society
