PROBABLE LUDA DESTROYER UNIT NUMBER 15 UNDER CONSTRUCTION
1. SIGNIFICANCE: PROBABLE LUDA DESTROYER (DD) UNIT 15 WAS IDENTIFIED IN
THE AGES OF CONSTRUCTION AT GUANGZHOU SHIPYARD TUNG-LANG ON
(SWN)
2. REMARKS: CONSTRUCTION ON THIS LUDA WAS STARTED IN LATE NOVEMBER 1982
AND H BEEN PROGRESSING AT A SLOW PACE. THE MID-SECTION OF
HAS NOW BEEN COMPLETED AND IS 82.5 METERS LONG AND HAS A BEAM
CONSTRUCTION EFFORTS ARE CURRENTLY BEING CONCENTRATED ON TIIE
STERN. A HULL SECTION WITH A 4.0 METER DIAMETER CIRCULAR CUT OUT WAS AT
THE HEAD OF THE BUILDING WAY. THE CUT OUT IN THIS SECTION IS SIMILAR IN
SIZE TO THOSE SEEN IN EARLIER LUDA DD FOR THE 130MM GUN MOUNT. HOWEVER,
IT CANNOT BE DETERMINED IF THIS SECTION IS FOR THE BOW OR STERN GUN
MOUNT. NO OTHER WEAPONS SYSTEMS CAN BE IDENTIFIED AT THIS TIME. IF
CONFIRMED, THIS WOULD BE THE FIFTH LUDA DD TO BE CONSTRUCTED AT THIS
SHIPYARD. THE PREVIOUS FOUR LUDA DD HAVE BEEN ASSIGNED TO THE SOUTH SEA
