EAST GERMAN CHARTERED MERCHANT SHIP SHOWS CONTINUED
COMMUNIST BLOC ASSISTANCE TO NICARAGUA. (SWN)
REMARKS: OLYMPIC VICTOR (U-2) IMAGERY( (REVEALED
A ROLL ON/ROLL OFF (RO/RO) MERCHANT SHIP ENTERING THE
CORINTO OFFSHORE ANCHORAGE WITH A DECK
CARGO OF 130 TRUCKS. THE CARGO IN UDED 57 W-50 CARGO
TRUCKS, 51 W-50 POL TRUCKS, 14 TOW TRUCKS, AND EIGHT
PROBABLE FIRE TRUCKS. (S/NF)
THE DESIGNATION "IFA MOBILE" WAS ON THE SIDE OF THE SHIP,
INDICATING ITS USE BY THE EAST GERMAN TRUCK MANUFACTURER
IFA AUTOMOBILE WORKS. THE VESSEL WAS PROBABLY THE WELFARE
III9 A PANAMANIAN-REGISTERED SHIP CHARTERED BY EAST
GERMANY. THE WELFARE III TRANSITTED THE PANAMA CANAL ON 26
JULY, BOUND FOR CORINTO WITH A DECLARED CARGO OF TRUCKS AND
GENERAL CARGO. (S/NF)
THE QUAY (SWN)
~THE TRUCKS HAD BEEN OFFLOADED AND REMOVED FROM
ARRIVED AT THE QUAY AT CORINTO PORT FACILITIES
SUBSEQUENT SATELLITE IMAGERY SHOWED THAT THE RO/RO HAD
