1. SIGNIFICANCE: THE CSS-4 ICBM SILO UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT THIS
PROBABLE LAUNCH SITE IS FULLY EXPOSED FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE
IT WAS IDENTIFIED IN OCTOBER 1982. (SWN)
2. REMARKS: THE UPPER SILO CORE (HEADWORKS AREA) HAS AN OUTER
DIAMETER OF AND A DEPTH OF THE CENTER 25X1
CORE HAS A DIAMETER OF 22 METERS AND AN UNDETERMINED DEPTH.
THREE CRANES ARE OPERATING AT THE EDGE OF THE APERTURE AND AT A
PROBABLE RAIL-SERVED ADIT IN THE VALLEY FLOOR. A CAMOUFLAGE
NET, WHICH HAS BEEN SUSPENDED OVER THE SILO SINCE IT WAS
IDENTIFIED, IS FOLDED BACK ON SUPPORT POLES. (SWN)
LAUNCH SITE 1 IS ONE OF SIX KNOWN CSS-4 ICBM SILOS IN CHINA:
TWO OPERATIONAL SITES NEAR LUONING, TWO UNDER CONSTRUCTION NEAR
LUSHI, AND TWO UNDER CONSTRUCTION NEAR JINGXIAN. (SWN)
