The AS-6 air-to-surface missile (ASM) and its asso- ciated shipping crates are being seen on KEYHOLE photography at an increasing number of Soviet airfields. AS-6 missiles or crates have now been seen at ten locations in the USSR and at an operational airfield in Egypt (Figure 1). 2. The first operational airfields where the AS-6 mis- siles and crates were seen were Soviet Naval airfields. Since however, they have appeared at three Long Range 25X1 Air Army (LRAA) airfields, indicating their use by both branches of the Soviet strategic aviation establishment. The TU-16 BADGER aircraft is used by both the Soviet Navy and the LRAA to carry the AS-6 missile. 3. Actual AS-6 missiles have been seen at only four air- fields in the USSR: at Akhtubinsk Flight Test Center (where the AS-6 was tested), at Severomorsk, at Stryy, and at Soltsy. At Akhtubinsk and Severomorsk the missile was seen under the wing of a BADGER, and only the fuselage length and width could be measured. At Stryy and Soltsy the entire missile was seen, and its general configuration and dimensions were ascertained (Figures 2 and 3). Places and dates where the missiles have been seen are presented in Table 1. 4. AS-6 shipping crates (Figures 4 and 5) are the primary indicators of AS-6 activity. They have been seen at Smolensk Guided Missile and Aircraft Components Plant 475, USSR, where the AS-6 missile is manufactured, at Akhtubinsk Flight Test Center, and at eight operational airfields. Places and dates where the crates have been seen are presented in Table 2. - 1 - TOP SECRET RUFF Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2011/08/24: CIA-RDP78TO5162A000200010033-3 Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2011/08/24: CIA-RDP78T05162A000200010033-3 TOP SECRET RUFF Table 1.
