1. (S/D) SIGNIFICANCE: THE FORWARD EDGE OF THE BATTLE AREA HAS
CHANGED SIGNIFICANTLY IRANIAN FORCES HAVE 25X1
ADVANCED ON TWO FRONTS IN AREAS NORTHWEST-AND SOUTHWEST OF
SHUSH CAUSING THE IRAQI FORCES-TO WITHDRAW FROM FORMERLY HELD
POSITIONS IN THESE TWO AREAS. IRAQI FORCES ARE ENGAGED IN AN
ASSAULT NEAR THE TOWN.OF EMAMZADEH ABBAS.
2. (S/D) REMARKS: IRANIAN FORCES, WHICH INCLUDE ELEMENTS OF AT
LEAST ONE ARMOR BRIGADE, HAVE ADVANCED SOUTH FROM POSITIONS.
NORTHWEST OF SHUSH AND NOW OCCUPY POSITIONS PREVIOUSLY HELD BY
IRAQI FORCES. THE AREA NOW HELD BY THE IRANIAN FORCES INCLUDES
THE EAST/WEST ROAD FROM DEZFUL THROUGH EMAMZADEH ABBAS. A
SECOND IRANIAN FORCE, INCLUDING ELEMENTS OF AT LEAST TWO TANK
BATTALIONS, HAS ADVANCED SOUTHWEST OF SHUSH AND ALSO OCCUPY
POSITIONS PREVIOUSLY HELD BY IRAQI FORCES. THE WESTERNMOST.
ADVANCE OF THIS FORCE-I-S IN-THE VICINITY OF 32-05-OON
047-59-OOE.
ELEMENTS OF AN IRAQI ARMOR BRIGADE ARE ENGAGED IN AN ASSAULT
NEAR THE TOWN OF EMAMZADEH ABBAS, AND MAY BE ATTEMPTING TO
REGAIN CONTROL OF A PORTION OF THE ROAD FROM DEZFUL THROUGH
EMAMZADEH ABBAS. IRANIAN FORCES IN THE VICINITY OF EMAMZADEH
ABBAS INCLUDE INFANTRY, SUPPORTED BY TWO TANK PLATOONS.
IRAQI FORCES THAT REMAIN DEPLOYED IN THE DEZFUL/SHUSH AREA
INCLUDE ELEMENTS OF AT LEAST FOUR ARMOR BRIGADES. THE IRAQI
MECHANIZED INFANTRY BRIGADE. DEPLOYED IN THE VICINITY
OF 32-09-OON 048-09-OOE IS NOT OBSERVED.
IRANIAN FORCES DEPLOYED IN THE AREA INCLUDE INFANTRY SUPPORTED
BY ELEMENTS OF TWO ARMOR BRIGADES.
