Prior to June 1975, only FROG 7 equipment had been observed at 25X1 25X1 25X1 25X1 these facilities. (S/WNINTE the Dumayr Tactical SSM Storage Facility 25X1 Figure 3) was identified in an area 7 nautical miles (nm) southeast of Al 25X1 Qutayfah. Al Qutayfah is the headquarters for the 3rd Armored Division and the Syrian General Headquarters (GHQ) for the only heavy artillery regiment within the Syrian Army. Therefore, the FROG and SCUD units are probably under the operational control of GHQ artillery. The FROG 7 battalions and the SCUD brigade share the same facilities at Al Qutayfah (Figure 2). The only permanent construction, such as underground vehicle storage buildings and barracks, has been for the FROG 7 battalions, while the SCUD brigade has remained mostly field deployed. (S/WNINTEL/NOFORN) a permanent SCUD storage and sup port 25X1 facility (Figure 4) was identified at Hirjillah Army Barracks Camp and Headquarters25X1 which houses the 1st Armored Division.* The facility consists of one large 25X1 drive-through missile checkout building, three underground missile storage buildings, and four support buildings. This was the first time that tactical SSM equipment had been seen outside the Al Qutayfah-Dumayr area. (S/WNINTE The Mezze Tactical SSM Storage Facility 25X1 Figure 5), identical to the SSM Storage Facility at Hirjillah Army Barracks (Figure 4), was identified It consists of the same type of drive-through missile checkout 25X1 building, four underground missile storage buildings, and three support buildings; both facilities are fence secured. The Asad Force/Defense Battalions are also at Mezze.* (S/WNINTEL) The construction of these two smaller facilities within Syrian armor unit garrison areas and the subsequent deployment of part of the SCUD missile equipment from its traditional location in the support area at Al Qutayfah may indicate Syrian armor units will include a tactical SSM firing capability. *DIA.
