This report describes increases in coastal defense activity in KiancTsu Province, China observed on photography of November 192 5X1 The report provides the location and a brief descrip- tion of the coastal defense sites and coastal defense-associated facilities in Kiangsu Province. The report contains text, a table, a map, and a photograph. 2. The largest number of field artillery (FA) pieces observed in a coastal defense role along the coast of Kiangsu Province was identified on photography of November 1972. The majority of the FA pieces were parked in support areas at coastal defense sites. 3. Ninety-one FA pieces were observed at 20 coastal defense (CD) sites along the coast of Kiangsu Province, China (Figure 1) on photography (Table 1). Previously, only 18 25X1 FA pieces had been observed at four CD sites. In addition to the increased number of FA pieces, five dummy tanks (Figure 2) and ten coastal defense-related installations were newly identified. 4. Forty-five CD sites have been identified in Kiangsu Province. There are six additional facilities associated with coastal defense activity. Thirty of the 45 CD sites have their own support facilities, and the remaining 15 consist of firing positions only. Most of the 91 FA pieces were observed in support areas.
