No Objection to Declassification in Part 2010/09/09: LOC-HAK-558-13-7-1 MEMORANDUM 3 521 SECRETISENSITIVEATIONAL SECURITY COUNCIL INFORMATION April 22, 1972 MEMORANDUM FOR: GENERAL HAIG FROM: JOHN H. HOLDRIDGE J SUBJECT: w` Movement and Present Location of the 325th NVA Division Mr. Helms has sent us a copy of a memorandum (Tab A) on the. movement and present location of the 325th NVA Division which notes the following: -- The Division could have been moved south to insure coastal defense (some of the best landing beaches are in Ha Tinh Province) or could be rapidly deployed.to the DMZ as a reserve force should this become necessary. Most probably the 325th has been moved south to provide flexibility in either repulsing Allied landings on the southern North Vietnamese coast or in reinforcing troops south of the DMZ. In any case, it was hardly needed in the Hanoi/Haiphong area where it was stationed prior to the move south.
