Approved For Release 2003/05 4IAFP84-00780R0014000&@6?-~6-6469 8 DEC 19M s/9 MEMORANDUM FOR: Director of Central Intelligence SUBJECT : CIA Movie 1. This memorandum is for your information. It reports actions taken or in process to produce a movie about CIA for use with selected public groups. 2.. Pursuant to your request that I undertake this project, I met in August with the. Legislative Counsel and representatives from each Directorate to consider a number of basic questions associated with such a movie, to solicit ideas on its content, and to plan its production. Tentative agreement was reached at that meeting to have the Film Unit of the Office of Training produce the movie and to make it a 30-minute color film showing: (1) why the U. S. needs a centralized intelligence system, (2) where we fit into the overall Government structure, and (3) something of what we do. 3. Following our August meeting, ideas for the movie were submitted by a number of individuals throughout the organization. Then on 7 November a proposed synopsis of the film, prepared by I of OTR, was 25X1 reviewed by essentially the same group that had met in August (and which I expect to continue to look to for assistance in critiquing the remaining produc- tion steps). We found the synopsis generally in line with expectations and instructedi to proceed with the "rough script" which he expects to have in first draft by 31 January 1967. If that looks satisfactory, a "shoot- ing script" should be ready by late March. 4. By using as much stock footage as possible, we hope to hold down the cost of the film and believe that a "rough cut" can be completed by late June. Animation, music, dubbing, and so forth will take perhaps another six weeks Some compression in the time schedule may be possible, but the sequence of steps will generally follow that indicated ct.. rte, 5. I would be most grateful for any suggestions or reactions you m have on what we have done thus far and our projected plans. 25X1 x.
