It appeared to me that it would be profitable for representatives of O/RR and O/SI to have a chat about t his whole problem with Col. Smith respecting the status of the summary evaluation paper regarding Russian capability to injure the U.S. Gen. Walsh indicated that all parties were dissatisfied with the JCS contribution and that he felt that, given an additional month, it would be possible for the senior working group to produce a much more satisfactory study. The General concurred and requested me to draft an appropriate random of notification to the NSC. I later requested a draft of such a memorandum. 25X1A5a1 3. During the conversation with Gen. Smith transmitted to me a memorandum received from Adm. Dennison enclosing a copy of Senator Sparkman's letter to the President respecting the FTC report on oil and requested comment to be signed by me for the General, to be delivered to Adm. Dennison by noon on Tuesday. We gathered the pertinent papers and requested that such comment be prepared by 0/NE 25X1A9a 14.
