Analysis of the antennas at Ha Noi Communications Facility South
indicates that this is one of the two main stations probably used to
communicate with Ha Noi-directed Communist insurgents in Southeast Asia.
The second station is Lang Truce Communications Facility, 13.5 nautical
miles (nm) north of Ha Noi.

is of sufficient quality to
determine that the antenna system at Ha Noi Communications Facility- South
is probably capable of communicating with any other communications facility
within approximately 600 nm of Ha Noi. This would extend southward to
within 100 nm of Saigon and northward past Chungking, China.
The Lang Truce Communications Facility contains rhombic antennas
oriented towards Moscow and Peiping, vee antennas for short-range omni-
directional communications, and horizontal dipole antennas oriented for
multiple frequency communications with all of Southeast Asia from Rangoon
to the South Vietnam coast.
The Ha Noi facility was initially reported as a radiotelegraph station
in 1951, but on no antennas or masts were visible and none
of the buildings could be associated with communications.
most of the buildings had been replaced (with the exception of an L-shaped
control building) but there was still no communications signature. Blast
walls were subsequently constructed around two of the buildings and in
photography led to the identification of 10 probable stich
masts, and the redesignation of the site as a probable communications
facility. Five pairs of horizontal dipole antennas were identified. by NPIC
on photography, confirming the installation as a communications
facility. (NIC cable message 3165, dated 4 March 1968.)
The facility at Lang Truce, probably constructed in now contains
an antenna field extending north and south of the control building, a large
single rhombic and a small double rhombic in day-night pairs, one small
single rhombic, four vee, and 13 horizontal dipole antennas.
Of the seven major communications facilities previously identified in
the Ha Noi area, only the two listed in this memorandum have the majority of
their antennas oriented on azimuths that could support insurgent activity in
Southeast Asia.
