1. Description of Approach and Progress During Re orting Period
Project is progressing in the areas of mechanical and`e .ectrical
design. Casting and machining drawings for table #1 will be completed
by 15 March. The clutch-brake units have been selected for the film
transport mechanisms for the three tables and will be ordered. by 8 March.
The film transport mechanism design is complete for the three tables
.and is in the process of being detailed. The microscope carriage for .
tables #2 and #3 id being completed. The design for the film loading
,and holding mechanisms are complete and being checked.
The initial design of the light source is. complete to the point
where 80% of the parts are ordered. The light source is expected from
the vendor March 20. Due to the variation in the operating characteristics
of the lamp it is difficult to say exactly what the range of dimming will
be, however the requirements called out appear to be well within the
proposed dimmer characteristics.

7. Work Plans for the Ensuing Month
Casting drawings for table #1 will be completed and submitted
for quotation. Design of the film transport mechanism will be completed
and the clutch-brake mechanisms placed on order ade design
