This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center 1Pla (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the Production Center 1Pla.
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage/maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firing ranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing areas or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified
facilities or tracking activity.

The Kirovabad Army Barracks East is lo-
cated in the eastern section of Kirovabad
(Figure 1).
The installation covers approximately 550
acres and has an adjacent training facility.
The barracks and motor pool areas are sepa-
rately secured by fences and walls. The instal-
lation includes the following areas: a depen-
dents/officers quarters area with 267 buildings;
a barracks/ administration area with 5 barracks
and 15 other buildings; 2 motor pools con-
taining 21 motor vehicle storage/maintenance
and 21 other buildings; 4 storage areas with 47
buildings; POL storage; and an ammunition

storage area. Approximately 35 armored/vehi-
cles and 50 trucks were visible in this sector
in Training facilities within the
barracks and the adjacent training areas in-
clude an athletic field, a small-arms range,
a driver-training course, 2 figure-8's, a 6-
gun AAA position (unoccupied), aflat-trajectory
firing range, and an armored-vehicle, moving-
target firing range. There is also a possible
electronic site in the training area (Figures
2 and 3).
No changes were noted.
The Kirovabad-Khanlar rail spur is adja-
cent to the installation.
Road Service
Good, all-weather secondary roads serve
the installation.
Administration and Troop Housing Areas
Area Dl contains 267 dependents /officers
quarters and support buildings.
Area D2 contains 5 multistory barracks,
1 multistory irregular-shaped administration
building, 2 storage buildings, and 12 support
buildings.
General Storage Areas
Area El contains 1 multistory adminis-
tration building and 23 storage buildings.
Area E2 contains 8 storage buildings.
Area E3 contains 9 storage buildings.
Area E4 contains 6 storage buildings.
Ammunition Storage Area
Area F contains 13 ammunition storage
buildings (7 with earth revetments on the sides
and 6 earth covered) and 1 bunker.
POL Storage Area
Area G contains 5 probable POL tanks,
partially buried, and a POL handling area with
earth walls on 3 sides.
Other Buildings
Area H is fenced and contains 2 uniden-
tified buildings.
Equipment Storage/ Maintenance Areas
Area J1 is a motor pool and contains 13
motor vehicle maintenance/ storage buildings
(one 170 by 45 feet, two 190 by 45 feet, three
210 by 50 feet, two 235 by 55 feet, four 255
by 60 feet, and one 400 by 50 feet), and 15
support/storage buildings. There were approxi-

Area J2 contains 8 motor vehicle storage/
maintenance buildings (two 160 by 40 feet,
one 200 by 40 feet, one 250 by 45 feet, one
270 by 50 feet, one 290 by 45 feet, one 350
by 55 feet, and one 500 by 55 feet) and 6
support/storage buildings.
Small-Arms Firing Range
Area L is a 350- by 100- foot small-arms
firing range with earth walls.
Driver-Training Areas
Area M1 contains 2 figure-8 driving tracks.
Area M2 contains an irregular driver-
training course with 4 possible obstacles.
Tank/Assault-Gun Firing Range
There is an armored-vehicle moving-target
firing range approximately 4 km east of the
center of the barracks area.
Flat-Trajectory Firing Range
Area P is a 2,000- foot flat-trajectory
firing range with 3 moving targets and 5 support
buildings.
Artillery Emplacement
Area Q is an unoccupied, 6-gun AAA
emplacement.
Unidentified Facility
Area T is a possible electronics site.
