Hou-so-cheng submarine base (Figure 1),
situated on the south coast of Ta-hsieh Tao 3 nm
NE of Chai-chiao-chen and 13 nm ESE of Chen-
hai, is probably a training/operating base. Fa-
cilities in the waterfront area include 3 offshore
wharfs, one T-head pier, one L-head pier, and 19
shop/support buildings. Support areas comprise
15 barracks, a motor pool, 20 storage buildings,
6 administrative/training buildings, a small se-
cured storage building, 4 POL tanks, a water
supply system,
