A suspect SAM site, identified on KEYHOLE
photography ofl , is located in open
terrain 52 nm NNE of Volgograd and one nm west
of Gornyy Balykley. Construction was underway
25X1-D. on this installation in 1/ KEY-
HOLE photography of _ vealed no
constr-uction nor any significant activity at that
time. The site consists of the suspect launch
area, within a probably fenced enclosure, and
an unfenced support area. Both areas are served
by an all-weat'ier road. The suspect launch area
is H-shaped and measures 500 by 320 feet. It
contains four revetted suspect launch positions,
each approximately 50 by 30 feet, located at the
termini of the two roads forming the legs of the
H. A drive-through revetment 250 by 115 feet
is situated on the site service road. Three par-
allel dead-end roads, served by the site service
road within the enclosure, are located 900 feet
east of the suspect launch area. Each of these
roads is 115 feet long and 18 feet wide at the
base, flaring to a width of 35 feet at the end.
The support area, located 2,300 feet NE of the
center of the suspect launch area, contains nine
buildings ranging in size 35 by 20 feet to
? 160 by 55 feet. Two additional buildings are
located adjacent to the rdad connecting the
support area and-the suspectJIaunch area. One,
50 by 45 feet, is located within the enclosure of
the suspect launch area, and the other, 50 by
30 feet, is just outside it.
