This report- is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a DI:\ 'CIA Panel. The series is being-
coordinated, published and disseminated by \PIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed bv`ihe \PIC-Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA. Photographic Intelligence Division NPIC), and the Production
Center 1P la (Dl:\). Tlie photographic analysis. for this particular re-
port was performed by the CIA Photographic ULtelligence Division
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators tor_
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (:\) -railroad service, (13) road service, (C:) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POI_ storage areas, (H) other buildings and

A military installation. is located adjacent
to the northeastern edge of Smolyaninovo (Fig-
ure 1). It includes Smolyaninovo Army Barracks
43-18N 132-27E, and Smolyaninovo HQ 40th
Motorized Rifle Division at
43-17N 132-27E.
The installation covers approximately 1,350
acres and contains 8 administration buildings,
18 barracks, 155-quarters-type housing units,
34 storage buildings, 4 probable explosives stor-
age buildings, 3 bunkers,-4 vehicle sheds, 3
motor parks, and 96 support buildings. Train--
ing facilities include I wheeled-vehicle driver-
training course, 2 tracked-vehicle driver-train-
ing circuits, I tank/assault-gun firing range, 1
suspect tank/assault-gun firing range in an
early stage of construction, and 2 unidentified
facilities (Figures 2 and 3).

DESCRIPTION OF INSTALLATION
General Storage Areas
A possible off-loading area is located on
a rail spur 0.5 kilometers (km) west of the
installation.
Road Service
Secondary, probably all-weather roads con-
nect the installation with Smolyaninovo. A
tank trail connects the installation with tank/
assault-gun firing range N2.
Administration and Troop Housing Areas
Area DL contains I administration building,
2 barracks, 2 storage buildings, 1 vehicle sited,
and 17 support buildings.
Area D2 contains I administration build-
ing and approximately 95 quarters-type housing.

and 10 support buildings.
Area D4 contains -4 administration buildings,
16 barracks, and 14 support buildings. -

Area P2, probably fenced, contains 4 prob-
able explosives storage buildings.
Other Buildings
Thirty support buildings are dispersed
throughout the installation.
Equipment Storage/Maintenance Areas
Area JL contains a motor park 'open stor-
age area, approximately 5S0 by 140 feet.
