Dear Mr. Cba.
Thank you for your letters of 5 June and 14 June 1957,
requesting the comments of this Agency an H. R. 7913 and
H. R. 7869, relating to the establishment of an Antarctic
C:omntission, and on H. It. 8055, relating to the establish-
ment of a Polar Commission.
The polar regions are of great Interest to the intelli-
gence community, and considerable attention has been given
to the problem of bow the United states Government should
conduct its various activities in these areas, with particular
reference to Antarctica. SS e are not in a position, however,
to comment specifically on the bills referred to in your
letters, as they involve issues of jurisdiction which are not
within the purview of this Agency.
The Bureau of the Budget has advised that it inter
poses no objection to the subrrtission of this report.
