THE EARLIEST REPORT OF THE EXISTENCE
OF THE TALL KING RADAR WAS IN 19590
SINCE THEN, MORE THAN 300 HAVE BEEN
IDENTIFIED AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS IN THE
SOVIET UNION AND EAST EUROPEAN SATELLITES.
THE TALL KING RADAR IS A SOVIET AIR DE-
FENSE RADAR. ITS PRIMARY ROLE IS TO PROVIDE
EXTENDED-RANGE, EARLY WARNING DETECTION
AND TRACKING AGAINST HIGH-ALTITUDE

AERODYNAMIC VEHICLES. IT IS BELIEVED TO
HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED BY THE SOVIETS TO
COUNTER THE U-2 THREAT. THE TALL KING
ANTENNA REFLECTOR
THE SLOW ROTATION RATE AND THE INABILITY
TO TILT THE ANTENNA ARE LIMITING FACTORS
IN TRACKING SATELLITES; BUT TALL KING MAY
HAVE A LIMITED CAPABILITY FOR DETECTION AND
TRACKING SATELLITES WHOSE PERIODS AND OR-
BITS HAVE BEEN ESTABLISHED.
THE SCORE BOARD RADAR IS AN IFF RADAR
FREQUENTLY OBSERVED IN CONJUNCTION WITH
DEPLOYED TALL KING RADARS.

THE FENCE SECURED FACILITY INCLUDES AN ANTENNA BUILDING, A SUPPORT
BUILDING AND TWO GENERATOR BUILDINGS. THREE ADDITIONAL PROBABLE
SUPPORT/BARRACKS TYPE BUILDINGS ARE ALSO SITUATED WITHIN THE FENCED
AREA. THE TALL KING ANTENNA HAS NOT BEEN ERECTED AS OF THIS COVERAGE
AND NO ANTENNA ELEMENTS ARE OBSERVED IN THE IMMEDIATE AREA. A SCORE
BOARD RADAR IS OBSERVED ADJACENT TO THE ANTENNA BUILDING.
