REQUIREMENTS:
General Army requirements, Navy DNI Project 412-60, and NSA./GENS-
6A/R5-60 requesting detailed information on. two rhombic sites north-
east of Chkalov, USSR.
REMARKS:
Photography of shows two commufzications stations with
r~.ombic antennas approximately 5 nautical. miles n.ortl~east of Chkalov, USSR,
and one nautical mile apart (see Figures 1 and 2). The stations (here arbi-
trarily labeled A, and B) are not connected and each is served by secondary
road only. Station A., located at 51051'N/55008'E, has four double rhombic
antennas and several stick masts (see Figure 3). Station B is located at
51?51'N/55011 aE and has two single rhombic antennas and 12 stick masts
(see Figure 4). The absence of dissipa.tio: lines and coolinig.facilities at both
stations indicates that they are probably receiving rather than transmitting
stations . The fact that. Station A is not secured reinforces this probability for
that i:.nnstallation. Lack of trackage on the snow-covered ground shows that the
stationYks are probably self -contained, with. billeting, administrative, and con-
trol facilities.

. Data on the rhombics at Station, A are given in Table 1 (numbers are
keyed to Figure 3). Two of the stick masts (item 5), feet
apart, probably support a horizontal wire antenna. Rhombic data for Station
B are given in Table 2 (numbers are keyed to Figure 4), The 12 stick masts
(item 3) have an, average height of 50 feet. The azimuth orientations of all
the rhombics are plotted on Figure 1.
