Approved For Release Sa00/08/1150: PI A ? p.p11341yA0W100040027-7 OFFICE OF PERSONNEL MEMORANDUM NO. 20-31-27 SUBJECT Special Pay Rates for Certain Positions RESCISSION: OPM 20-31-26 dated 22 February 1971 18 January 1972 1. Under authority of 5 U.S.C. 5303 the Civil Service Commission has adjusted the special pay rate schedules to provide pay increases equivalent to the general pay increase for General Schedule employees authorized by Executive Order 11637. The rates and position catego- ries in the Agency to which the rates apply are shown in the attached schedules. 2. When an employee is receiving a "saved rate" as a result of a special rate range having been reduced previously, his pay will be adjusted by the amount of increase granted to the tenth rate of the special rate range. 3. The effective date of the new schedules is 9 January 1972. The schedules apply on a world-wide basis except for the Cartography Schedule which applies to the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area only. Employees appointed or promoted after the effective date to position categories included in the schedules will receive appropriate rates based on the new schedules. 4. As a result of the annual review conducted by the Civil Service Commission, the Commission has determined that the special rates for all categories listed herein, except Medical Officer, will be terminated on 5 February 1972. On 6 February 1972 the regular GS rates become effective for all categories except Medical Officer. The Medical Officer special, rates remain in effect. Rates shown in this OPM should not be used in making commitments to be effective after 5 February. Effective 6 February the special schedule prefix designations for all categories except Medical Officer are abolished. These are: GSE for Engineer or Architect; GSS for Scientific; GSR for Operations Research; GSD for Mathematician; GSF for Accountant; GSC for Cartography; and GSP for Psychologist. The GS designation will be substituted on Staffing Complements and other documents.
