in Repeated Swine Bleeding for Hog-Cholera Antiserum."

No 8, Aug 66, pp 63-68.
Abstract [Authors' English summary modified]: The authors
studied the dynamics of total proteinemia.in 10 pigs immune
to hog cholera that were bled four times within a 12 to 14
day period. They found some disturbance of the protein bal-
ance, particularly a decrease in total proteins, which was
most marked at exsanguination. Albumins, alpha- and beta-
globulins showed no significant differences between the four
bleedinge; gamma globulins decreased in the later bleedings,
especially the last one, but the decrease was found to be sta-
tistically insignificant,

Ditherpezie alcohol has attracted the, attention of chemists because aC
its peculiar structure (1) and availability. It is a part of
nutmeg sage and can be easily synthesized as a by-product in
the production of etherial sage oil. During the past years the
chemists have dealt-with its structure which is related to
ambrain and plays an important part in perfume production. In
connection with the oxidizing separation of sklareol indeed
several pleasant-smelling compounds were obtained.which may be
used as perfect substituents for amber. The possibilities of
transformation of sklareol into new products valuable in
practice have not been exhausted. The authors investigated the
hydrochlorination of sklareol in order to obtain its deriva-
tives, containing the amino group. They did, however, not suc-
ceed in separating the well-known trichlorosklareol. In this

connection each time the liquid product C20 H33 Cl was obtained.
The analysis of its infrared spectrum showed that it is related
to the spectra of sk larenes (II) and (III) which were obtained
in connection with the dehydration of sklareol (Ref 6) and that
in the molecule of the reaction product of sklareol with HC1
a tertiary-primary 1C.CH' and a secondary-primary-CH=CH bond
1-, 2 2
is contained. The presence of a tertiary-primary carbon-carbon
bond in the reaction product of sklareol with HCI was also
confirmed by the combination separation spectra. Apart from
this a line in the spectra indicated the presence of chlorine
in this product. In the case of a careful oxidation of the
before obtained monochloro derivative with permanganate two
products were separated; The neutral one with the composition
C20H32 0 melts at 97-980, has no active hydrogen, does not
produce an oxime and semi-carbazon and with respect to its
spectrum analysis it has the group -C-0-C1__ and -CH-CH

can be classified among the oxides of the structure (V). The
second product with a melting point of 99 - 1010 is an oxy
acid of the composition C and corresponds to the chemical

and spectrum analytical investigations according to formula (IV).
Also the further investigation results proved that the reac-
tion product of sklareol with HC1 is a mixture of isomers vith
the composition C20H33 C1, one of them is compound (VII). There
are 3 figures and 7 references, 2 of which are Soviet.

ABSTRACT: The purpose of the investigation was a) the detection of a
morelgeneral. functional group for Pd than that given by
L. M. Kullberg (Ref 3)p and b) to devise a sensitive photo-
metric method of palladium determination also in the presence
of platinum.,As functional groups the following are given

and methyl red were chosen (Table 3). Finally, by a comparison
of the light absorption spectra methyl red was found to be
the best reagent which was used for the detepmination of
palladium in the presence of platinum at a ratio of
Pd : Pt - 1 : 14. There are 3 figures, 7 tables, and 3 ref-
erences, 1 of which is Soviet.

TITLE: Liquid nitrogenous fertilizers the carboammoniacates. II. Semi-industrial
experiments
SO.URGE: Revista de chimie,.v. 16, no. 1, 1965, 10-15
TOPIC TAGS: fertilizer, ammonium compound, urea, ammonia, carbon dioxide
ABSTRACT: In this second
article of a series, the authors give some data on the prepar-
ation of-carboammoniacate liquid fertilizers in a semi-indu-strial
plant with a production capacity of 3 tons daily. The plant
utilizes the process of simultaneous absorption of ammonia and
carbon dioxide accompanied by chemical reactions in the eutectic
nmmonium nitrate-urea mixture. The absorption apparatus used
ensures absorption.efficiency of over 96 percent, and the char-
~acteristice of the product are superior to those of liquid fer-
tilizers Of the aqueous ammonia or amoniacate type. Orig. art. has: 1 figure,
