ABSTRACT: Based on the work of Soviet and foreign authors developing self-lubricatin
ball bearingsl$nd on the experimental work performed at HIEMg the following
conclusions are reached. Ban bearings with massive separators made of teflon%%
4 and a special lubricani; are acceptable for unlubricated operation under-a-Wospheric
conditions at normal tenqmratures. They provide a useful life of 100 and more hours
at a speed parameter of d + D n < 40 000 mm/rev/min. Lubrication is provided by
gradual wearing of the s(qwator. -Characteristics of a failing unlubricatod bearing
are increased noise during operation and a rapid riae in or-rating temperaturop
measured on the outer rings (by 10-150 or more), which is due to destruction of the

separator and acenlation. of wear products. The operating life of the same bearingsi
in a vacuum (to 10' am 11g) decreases by factors of more than 10 because of inw.Lffi-
cient, heat transfer due to the absence of gas convection in the bearing body and to
the influence of vacuum in increasing the friction torque and changing the structural
composition of the sepa;"ator materiale 7 i1lustrationa. Bibliography of 5 titles.

TITLE! New Materials on the Stratigraphy of Jurassic Deposits of the
Vi-WN,uy syneclyse (Novyy-_ materialy k stratigrafii yurskikh otlo-
zhertiy Vilyuyskoy sineklizy).
FMIODICAL: Doklady AN SSSR, 1957s Vol. 116., Nr 1, pp. 129-13o (USSR).
ABSTRACT: It waa only after ammonites (hitherto determined as Harpoceraz(_
Ludwigia) murchisonaa Sow.) were again found in the y-FR7T9_57in
We-Vu_seum__oT_TH_e_Vo_scow Geological Exploration Institute and on the
right bank of the Vilyur., 45 - 5o above the Suntar settlement, that
the abovementioned determination could be declared erroneous. The
ammonites do not belong to Ludwigia~ but are related to those of the
genus Pseudolioceras Buckm.-TE-e-Mrst author establishes a new genus:
0sperleioceras for The type of the Vilyuy (0. viluiense Krimh.) as
w=e-a-s-To-r-Fench and some Alsatian ammonites. The t7je of the gem
nus: Pseudolioceras beauliziensis Montestiere The genus is spread
in the middle and rower To_gr~cen 'bf Western Europe and East Siberia.
Most of the ammonite material, collected by the second author, be-
longs to the genus Dacty]Lioceras (the species is mainly D. gracile
(Simps.)). Part of the individi . with a smaller spann1n_g__o=e

predominance of individual standing, not branched ribs, had to be
separated as new (see above). These new findings and reclassifica-
tions of ammonites from old collections bring alterations into the
hitherto existing conceptions on the deposits mentioned in the title.
The marine deposits can, as it is known, be subsivided into 3 hori-
zomi: the lower (Middle.Leias), the middle (Upper-Leias) and the
upp3r (Upper Aalenian with Eumorphotis lenaensis (Lah.)). The occur-
rence of the latter on the Vilyuy river was hitherto only determined
according to ammonites which, as it was already said, were originally
incorrectly identified. The above-mentioned new findings permit the
sta-~ement that all ammonites in the "Belemnite-Leda layers?' of the
Vil~ruy syneclye indicate a toarcian age. Thus the basis for the as=
ser-tvion no longer exists that Middle-Jurassic deposits (among them
the Upper-kalenian) occur here. Here the cross section of the marina
dep;osits ends with Upper Leias, more exactly with toarciene. These
facts callfor the necessary, corrections in the stratigraphic scheme
whit:h was accepted by the Inter-Department-Conference for the elabon
ration of unified schemes of Siberia,-(Leningrad 1956).

TITLE: Interruption of the current flow upon electrical explosion of fin* wires
in air,
SOURCE: M UzSSR, Izvestiya. Seriya fiziko-matematicheakikh nauk, no. 5, 1966, 86-W
TOPIC TAGS: exploding wire, fine wire
ABSTRACT: A study of the nature of the interruption of current during the electrical
explosion of fine wires in air is described. The interruption of current is the
time interval between the end of the first and the beginning of the second current
pulse flowing through the fine wire. An RLC circuit (R - 0.02 0; L - 0.4 ph;
C - 300 ph (consisting of two IM-5-15 capacitors connected in parallel) was used to
send current through the fine wire. The capacitor was charged to 3.1 kv at the
beginning of each test., An oscillograph was connected to the movable arm of a
potentiometer connect,ed across the wire sample. Samples of W, Mo, Ta,. and Fe wires
with lengths ranging from 5 to 150 mm and diameters from 0.05 to 0.30 r= were used
in the tests. Test-rasults for 50-i= long W, Mo, Ta, and Fe wires with diameters of
0.30, 0.14, and 0.24 mm are shown In Fig. 14 The duration of the interruption
of current for wires made from above metals in more stable than that for copper wires.

The~ interruption duration is a function of the wire length and diameter; it increases
sharply with wire length. At high initial voltages across the capacitor current
pauses are very short and it is difficult to establish their dependence on the wire
diameter. Current intorruption duration decreases with increasing initial voltage
across the capacitor. Orig. art. has: 3 figures and 1 table. [IV]

TOPIC TAGS: selenium, vapor condensation, separation# food ratel

ABSTRACT: The au,'Clhors investigated the vacuum refining of selenium
in a continuous Iractional column equipped with screens. The vaculm
extraction of selenium was based on the considerable difference which
exists in the pressures of selenium, selenide# metal and impurity
vapors. A great amount of contradictory data on selone-sulfur com-
mnds have been made available ~n literature. Chizhikov at al

have shown experimentaLly that sulfur"-selenium cannot be fully
i.separated. In view of the difficulties involved in the separation
Of selenium and marcury, the authors investigated the vapor pressurel
of mercury selenide within the 350-450C range which proved,to be
lower than that o~'.' elementary selenium. The purest selenium was
obtained at a condensation temperature of 240-270C. The effects of
temperature, feed rate and residual pressure were analyzed. The
authors found that, an increase in temperatures between 370 to 430C
is accompanied by a productivity increase from 5 to 50 g/min. The
ratio of refined metal to the mother liquor depends on temperatures
and feed rate, and this may be readily predetermined. Residual
pressure was found to* affect the process considerably. An increase
of up to 1 mm Hg a:~ 43OG increases the yield of the overflow from 22
to 70.9%. Quality tests showed that the selenium had a lower-content.~
of impurities as tomperatures were decreased and vapor and selenium
counterXlow introduced into the process,' A study of the distribution!-

yield of the last screen is a makimum of.!I% while that of the first
screen may be controlled by the (listanceof the screen from the
evaporator (ioe, temperature) the concentration of the,'major part of
impurities in a wall amount I

selenium drastically. Orig. art. has: 3 figures and 3 tables
